Why Make a Change?
If we as a buying species continue to consume at the rate we are…you might as well kiss the earth goodbye. Yes… it’s a harsh reality especially coming from a retail boutique’s perspective. We have decided to implement a few changes to make sure we are leading the way in doing right by our Earth. Being that clothes are the 2nd greatest contributor to the planet’s demise next to plastics, every one of us should be held personally responsible for changing their habits.
Looking into the Mirror
The most important thing Nami has decided to do is look at ourselves in the mirror and start the change we want to be with our own boutique and thus Nami Exchange was created with this in mind.
After watching the documentary called “The Minimalist”, we discovered the average person only wears 20% of their entire wardrobe? So Nami has implemented a program to help with this issue. If you have any pre-loved clothing or accessories you no longer wear bring them into to nami and let us move those from the back of your clothing rack to the front of Nami’s. Offer the opportunity for someone else to fall in love with the clothes you no longer wear. Nami Exchange is offering 40% cash or 50% Nami dollars in return for each piece sold. The reaction so far has been overwhelmingly positive from our clients who are very thankful for the Nami Exchange.
A sustainable Nami
Imagine for a moment that you are able to walk into nami and everything you see is made without hurting the environment in any way. This is called sustainability. We would like to reach a point in the life of nami where this word would represent the majority of product in our boutique. We now know it’s possible and though nami is a long way off, we now see where we must go and what we must do to make that happen…and all we can do is take one step forward. While we are going through changes we invite you to join us in any way you see possible. This is a journey we must all walk together. We thank you for your unending support over the past 15 years but it’s time for some big changes to be made for us all with the Earth in mind.
The Stitching Project
We found when we know we are helping people help themselves we feel better and know we are on the right track. The Stitching Project is based in India and an ethically based manufacturer of clothing. Their emphasis is based upon hand-loom fabrics, block prints and stitching. Most if not all materials are sourced locally and choices made with the environment in mind. They actively promote fair pay and educate people for achieving this end. They concentrate on not losing the traditional techniques and add their own temporary twist. So far we could not be more pleased with the workmanship they have shown us.
